Prior to her time with the Mission Society, she worked internationally in research, training and program evaluation – holding positions at The Balm In Gilead, an NGO supporting faith-based organizations, Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and the World Health Organization. She has a DrPH from Columbia University and a MA in Education from Cornell University.

Beth manages a staff of nearly 1,000 employees, in a non-profit, social service organization with a budget of $90 million. Providing services to children in foster care, children and families who are at-risk, residential services for children, specialized clinical services for children, services for persons with developmental disabilities, and early childhood educational services in New York City, Westchester, and Rockland Counties. Prior to joining CMCS, Beth served in multiple leadership positions at God's Love We Deliver, The Fortune Society and as a consultant to several other agencies. In addition, she also brings a unique set of skills to her position at CMCS as a result of years working on Wall Street and in Finance, in the airline industry, as well as in the government sector in the Office of Management and Budget.
She received her Bachelor of Arts, Fordham University, Bronx, New York in January 1984 and her Master of Arts in Economics, City University of New York at Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York in February 1989.

Elsie McCabe Thompson is currently the President and CEO of New York City Mission Society. She has held an unwavering commitment to help the underserved throughout her career – providing her decades of experience, strategic leadership, and vision to the nonprofit, cultural, legal, and government sectors. Prior to Mission Society, Elsie shepherded the Museum for African Art as its President for 15 years. In this capacity, she guided an organizational revitalization and led a financial and brand turnaround to establish the Museum prominently in New York. She also served as Co-Founder and Director of the National Urban Technology Center, as Chief of Staff to then-Mayor David N. Dinkins, and was a Senior Litigation Associate at Shearman & Sterling. Elsie received a BA at Barnard College, Columbia University, and her JD from Harvard Law School.
